Try Voyselle freeEtsy title and tag rules
- A title can be up to 140 characters, including spaces and punctuation. Etsy suggests using fewer than 15 words.
- Etsy suggests avoiding repeated words and opinion words like "perfect", and leaving price and delivery details out of the title.
- Sellers report that Etsy's listing form only accepts %, : and & once each in a title, rejects $, ^ and `, and won't take more than 3 words in capital letters.
- You can add up to 13 tags, each up to 20 characters. Tags use letters, numbers and spaces. Apostrophes and hyphens are fine inside a tag, but a tag can't start with one.
- Use all 13, and use short phrases shoppers type. Etsy's own example: "silver earrings" works better than "silver" and "earrings" as two tags.
eBay title rules
- A title can be up to 80 characters, including spaces. eBay matches searches word by word, so use the space for details buyers search for: brand, size, colour, material and style.
- eBay asks sellers to avoid all capitals, extra punctuation and filler like "L@@K" or "wow". Two spaces in a row aren't accepted.
- Put details like colour, size and material in item specifics too. eBay uses them for its search filters.
Amazon listing rules
- Since July 2026, titles in most categories can be up to 75 characters, including spaces. Books, music and video keep a longer limit.
- Titles can't use ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ unless they're part of your brand name. They can't repeat a word more than twice (small words like "and" or "for" don't count), and can't include promotional wording like "best seller" or "free shipping".
- Item highlights is a separate line of up to 125 characters. It's searchable and shown under your title.
- You get up to 5 bullet points. Amazon's style guide suggests 10 to 255 characters each.
- Search terms are hidden keywords, up to 249 bytes in the US, UK and EU. If you go over, Amazon uses none of them. Accented letters take more than one byte. Separate words with spaces, and don't repeat words already in your title.
Shopify and website SEO rules
- The SEO title is the link people click in Google. Shopify accepts up to 70 characters, and Google often cuts titles after about 60.
- The meta description is the text under that link. Aim for about 120 to 160 characters. Google cuts longer ones and often swaps very short ones for text from your page.
- The product title is the heading shoppers read on your page. Keep it short and natural, and save extra keywords for the SEO title.
Questions
Is the checker free? Yes. There's no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent to us.
Does it connect to my shop? No. It only looks at the text you paste into this page.
Is this made by Etsy, eBay, Amazon or Shopify? No. Voyselle is independent. The rules come from each place's help pages and seller guides, as of October 2026. They can change them at any time, so their own listing forms always have the final say.
